The exciting Shockwave 36’ Smooth Criminal is now exclusively listed for sale with 38 South Boat Sales. She was designed by the world leading Reichel Pugh design team and constructed to exacting standards in carbon composites by premier Australian race boat builder, Hart Marine. The design brief was simple: to produce a light, strong 36ft day racer that was seriously fast but easy to sail. Launched in 2002, her exceptional race record since then shows that the design brief was met in full and she continues to deliver extraordinary performances. Her outstanding race record includes many trophies and Club Championships plus an outright line honours win in the annual Cock of the Bay sprint across Port Phillip against all comers, and remember, she is just 36ft long! She regularly out-performs much bigger yachts.
This exciting race yacht has been thoughtfully upgraded in every area that could make her faster. She features an all carbon mast and boom from Applied Composites, Future Fibres EC3 carbon rigging with calibrated turnbuckles fitted in 2017, a well-planned deck layout with twinned mainsheet system to winches, jib inhaul system, underdeck controls to the trim station include vang, outhaul, traveler lines, with the asymmetric spinnaker take-down system at the rear. Her twin-wheeled and very spacious cockpit allows for easy crew movement for sail handling and manouvers while wireless electronics provide the necessary performance data to keep you grinning.
She has a full wardrobe of winning sails from leading lofts including square top mainsails, a range of jibs and asymmetric spinnakers and a furling Code Zero. Like her smaller counterparts, the Reichel Pugh designed Melges 32s, engine power is provided by an efficient Yamaha 9.9hp outboard that retracts into a cockpit well with flush closing bottom doors so there is no drag while sailing.
Always maintained in top condition, this high-performance racing yacht is simple to sail and fast in every direction. She is offered in race-ready condition, ready to continue her winning ways for her next owner and crew. Note that her keel is designed to be retracted so she can be readily transported on her own low-level shipping cradle to her new home and to distant regattas.
