The Bruce Farr designed and Binks built 38′ Farr 11.6 is a fast cruiser-racer, equally at home on the club race course or leisurely cruising the coast and bays. Designed for all-round fast sailing without the constraints of rating rules, these yachts have a comfortable motion at sea, are easily handled and rewarding to sail. Sister yachts have completed Sydney-Hobarts, Trans-Tasman and Melbourne – Osaka races while this one has enjoyed club racing successes. This 1992 wheel steered model has been upgraded for offshore sailing with further stiffening by way of additional longitudinal frames and glass work in the keel floors.
Featuring pleasant, comfortable, timber trimmed accommodation, there are three double berths plus a settee berth while the dinette / saloon table lowers to form an additional double berth if needed. There is good headroom throughout, a well equipped galley with two fridges, a gas stove with griller plus a microwave oven and plenty of well organised storage. The top of the port side fridge forms the chart table with electrics, radios and nav equipment all nearby. The fully enclosed head compartment has a Lavac vacuum toilet with vanity and hand held shower.
A full suite of Raytheon electronics includes a powerful Raymarine 6000 linear drive autopilot with remote controls while her Kestrel HF and Navman VHF radios will keep you in touch.
The yacht is equipped for easy short-handed sailing or fully crewed racing. She has a fractional rig and all controls lead back to the cockpit via a series of rope clutches. The headsail is conveniently stowed on a Furlex 200-S furler and her spinnakers ensure exciting downwind performance. She was fitted with a new Volvo Penta MD2030 30HP diesel engine with saildrive in 2003. The 240v shore power system has an integral battery charger while a 4kv Inverter powers the Microwave oven when needed.
